FYI for tournament
I'd like you to wear your goggles. We had two pop ups this week where player took a ball to the head. Goggles would have save them for getting a contusion.
I don't want to see anyone sideline this close to pre-season with a concussion.
Also, it is getting darker earlier, so arrive early. We'll try to move the games right along on time. Each team will need one appointed captain that will meet with me for the coin toss. Lower seed will call it. The appointed captain will be the only player allowed to question the officials. Other players will be carded for misconduct. Consistent misconduct of this nature from players, stand in coaches, or fans will result in the disqualification of the team involved. I expect good sportsmanship and respect all around.
I'd like to clarify what the "advantage" rule is.
"Note: umpires sometimes use discretion and allow play to continue during a penalty because of the “advantage” rule, which states that a penalty is only called if the offending team gains an advantage by committing the violation or in cases of dangerous play. This rule greatly speeds up the pace of the game."
Keep your eyes alert, and you will see the official put her hand up indicating the foul was seen. The whistle is delayed to see who touches the ball next. Then appropriate action is taken. You can think of it as the foul getting canceled out. For example, it hits your foot, but your opponent touches it next and gains possession, or you get fouled, but you don't loose possession. Play on and play the whistle.
I'd like to share this from the rule book with you.
"D. Attacking Team is Fouling 1. In the circle -do NOT hold the whistle."
"E. Defensive Team is Fouling 1. In the circle - Hold, hold, hold. Make absolutely sure the attack does not lose the opportunity to score before making a call."
Also, clarification of lifting in the circle for 7 on 7 short field play. For safety reason no lifting in the circle. If the attacker lifts the ball directly up during her shot and it goes in - no goal will be awarded. If the attackers shot travels along the ground and then the ground or a defenders stick lifts it and it goes in, a goal will be awarded. One more thing. If a "sure goal" is stopped by a players foot right in front of the goal line, a goal will be awarded. The call is usually a stroke, but not all teams have GK, so this is the alternative. It must occur right at the goal line though.
